Web Site Redesign Giveaway

Last month, we told you about our web site redesign giveaway and now, we are happy to announce the winners that will be getting their web sites made over by Evolve Thought Media Group.

  • Accès Asie (http://www.accesasie.com/)
    Selected due to the fact that they are a not for profit organization hosting large events for the Chinese community in Montreal, Canada. If you are in the Montreal area be sure to checkout this year’s Montreal Asian Heritage Festival.
  • Penndel Mental Health Center (http://www.penndelmhc.org/)
    Selected based on many factors; the first being that we feel their current website certainly does not serve their center justice. Secondly Penndel is a private non for profit organization.

    To be perfectly honest we find this concept quite unique and funny. We’re more than happy to help promote it!

How to Change Links with CSS

Posted by: admin | Comments Comments Off

Basic Introduction to CSS

Links, like just about any other part of a web page, can also be made to look different with some CSS code.  Using a CSS, you can easily change the color of  link, the size, the background and much more.

Before we get started though, there are four different link states that you may want modify.  They are:

  • a:link – just your run-of-the-mill regular link
  • a:visited – a link that somebody has visited
  • a:hover – the effect to the link when somebody mouses over it
  • a:active – how a link looks the moment it is clicked

Now that you know the four different link states, how can you modify them?

When adding CSS code to modify the way your links look in a page, you can use just about any CSS property out there. Here are some common link styles you may want to play with.

Take Away the Underline for Links with CSS

If you want to take away the underline from links, try setting the text-decoration CSS property to “none”.

a:link {text-decoration:none;}
a:visited {text-decoration:none;}
a:hover {text-decoration:underline;}
a:active {text-decoration:underline;}

Change the Colors of Links with CSS

Another quick and easy styling tip would be to change the background color or the color of the links themselves.  You can do that by using the “color” and “background-color” link properties.  Here is an example:

a:link {color:#336699; background-color:#B2FF99;}
a:visited {color:#336699; background-color:#FFFF85;}
a:hover {color:#003366; background-color:#FF704D;}
a:active {color:#003366; background-color:#FF704D;}

Using More Than One Link Style on the Same Page

As an example, let us say you want the box on the left to have blue links, and the box on the right to have red links, all on the same web page.  You can do that by using context dependent selectors.  The thing to remember is to put the section’s id, class, or span name before the link code like so:

.box1 a:link {color:#336699;}

.box2 a:link {color:#335544;}

I hope that serves a a good introduction into the basics of styling links using cascading style sheet code.  This will help you make your links on your web sites more unique to the look and feel that you want your own web site to have.

Tip: When setting the style for several link states, there are some order rules:

  • a:hover MUST come after a:link and a:visited
  • a:active MUST come after a:hover

Google AdWords & Your Search Engine Marketing Odyssey

Posted by: admin | Comments Comments Off

Google AdWords Tips

We all know that getting your website set up is just the beginning of growing your online presence. For that reason, Lunarpages is dedicated to bringing you the information and resources you need to accelerate your business growth. Check out our website for information about our search engine marketing programs.

Recently we partnered with Google to send every Lunarpages customer a time-sensitive coupon to try Google AdWords. Be sure to check your mail and be sure to redeem the coupon quickly so you don’t forfeit it!

Our partner, LocalDirective, offers some tips to make best use of your coupon:

  • The structure of information in Google is: Campaigns > AdGroups > Text Ads & Keywords.
  • Before you get started, determine the geography you want to target. If you plan to target two different geographical areas, you will need to create a campaign for each one.
  • For each campaign, you will have at least a few AdGroups. Think about AdGroups as thematic, so that for each area of focus, you will want to have one adgroup. If you are a plumber, for instance, you may have AdGroups for Sewer & Drain Cleaning, Emergency Plumbing, Plumbing Fixture Installation, etc.
  • For each AdGroup, you will pick a number of keywords that you believe people might search for, using Google’s Keyword Tool to help you choose.
  • For each AdGroup, you will want to set up at least two text ads, and choose to have the ads rotate, so you can find out what appeals most to your audience.
  • For each text ad, instead of sending visitors to your home page, send them to the destination page that most closely matches the keywords in the AdGroup.
  • Finally, don’t forget to redeem your coupon and set a daily budget so you don’t spend more than you want to!
  • Then, sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor! Best of luck for SPECTACULAR results!!!

LocalDirective Announces The Online Marketing Program Contest Winner

Last month, our partner, LocalDirective held a contest for a FREE 30-day Basic SEM-SEO program, valued at $389. While dozens of entrants vied for the winning entry, alas, only one single winner was chosen. And the winner is….(drum roll, please)…

Donald, from www.fayekimdesigns.com. LocalDirective will be contacting you within the week to get your program set up. Congratulations!!

For the rest of you…you know you must market your website to achieve the fabulous results possible for your business, so contact LocalDirective at 1.888.613.7174 or CustomLP@LocalDirective.com to find out how they can help you achieve out-of-this-world results!

Redirect Links Using the LPCP

Posted by: admin | Comments Comments Off

The Lunarpages LPCP control panel enables web hosting clients with the ability to easily redirect web site visitor traffic from one web page or section of their web site to another. This is done without the need of learning the complicated way of managing domain redirects with .htaccess file manipulation. With this tool, you an easily redirect your web site visitors (permanently or temporally) from one page to another page.

The first step would be to login to your LPCP control panel, and then locate the “Redirects” link in the left side menu.

Redirect Link in LPCP

Once you click that link, you will be taken to the Redirects management web page.

Redirect Management

Type

In the type drop down box, you have the choice of creating a permanent (301) redirect or a temporary (302) redirect.

http://(www.)?

In this drop down box, select the domain name for the web site in question, and in the following empty text box, put the address to the rest of the page – as based on the URL address location.

For example, if I wanted to redirect mydomain.com/page/homepage.html I would select mydomain.com from the drop down box, and put in page/homepage.html into the empty text box.

redirects to->

In this empty text box, you want to put the location of the new page you want to redirect to. When inputting the address, be sure to use the full URL path (example: http://www.yourdomain.com/pagetoredirectto.html).

www redirection

You have three choices when it comes to how you want to handle the www in the web site address.

  • Only redirect with www
  • Redirect with or without www
  • Do Not Redirect www

If you check the “Wild Card Redirect” check mark box, you will redirect ALL files within a directory to the same file name in the redirected directory. When you are sure you have filled out all the boxes correctly, hit the button that reads, “Add” to add the redirect automatically.

Once a redirect has been added, it can also be deleted using the “Delete” option listed under the Current Redirects section of the page.

Tip: Are you a web hosting client using cPanel, rather than LPCP?  If so, go read through our how to redirect pages in cPanel tutorial, featured on the web hosting wiki.
