JustHost: Common Customer Complaints

Posted by: admin | Comments Comments Off

Lately, we’ve been chugging away at the user reviews, combing through them to find some of the more common and show stopping complaints our users have submitted to us here at WebHostingGeeks.com. With each of these reports, we’ve been detailing some of the largest web hosting providers in the business. We’re not quite done exposing weaknesses yet, though: Today we’ll be covering one of the more popular (and cheap) shared hosting providers in the industry, JustHost. So whether you’ve been thinking about signing with the host, or are just curious to see how the stack up in our users’s eyes, then stick around! Jump on down below the break to catch an initial look at who JustHost is, followed immediately by a breakdown of the more common complaints and issues we’ve been hearing about from our readers. So, without further ado:

Who is JustHost?

Justhost logoIn their own words, JustHost is a company that offers prices that are “incredibly competitive and include an extensive list of features, including unlimited disk space, unlimited transfers, unlimited email accounts and the ability to host unlimited domains.” Sounds like a fair deal to us, as does the anytime money-back guarantee. JustHost is one of the few hosts we can name that will refund the money you would have spent on the rest of your hosting term, no questions asked. It’s a great way to do business, and if it actually pans out, it makes the $3.75 a month hosting plan seem less like a risk and more like a boon. However, all of this can look fantastic on paper, but none of it would matter if the company’s actual performance is subpar. So on that note, what have our readers got to say about JustHost? To find out, keep reading just beyond the break while we button up the issue for you. Starting with:

JustHost Sales Problems

justhost sales complaint

Unprofessional: This is a new one, or at the very least, we haven’t run across the complaint enough to call it common. Still, it seems quite a few of our users that have signed with JustHost are experiencing problems that we can only describe as unprofessional. It seems that JustHost will occasionally loose sensitive data, or not ring back a customer when they look for support. Furthermore, we’re also hearing reports that the company is sometimes a bit slow in a way that seems lazy, rather than bogged-down.

No Money Back: We’re saddened to hear this from our readers, but we can’t say we’re entirely surprised. It appears that quite a few of our reviewers have tried to cash in on the money back guarantee JustHost promises, only to find that their cancelation requests are never answered, or that JustHost simply won’t do the deed. This is quite disturbing news, especially if you had planned to bank on that guarantee as a bit of piece of mind.

JustHost Tech Support Problems

justhost support complaint

Hard to Understand: We’re all for a global village, but it appears that some of our readers have quite the devil of a time understanding the tech support representatives that JustHost has hired. We can only assume this side of the operation has been outsourced to a location other than the United States, and that the accents incurred there have been giving our English-speaking readers fits. Take this with a grain of salt, though: If you speak Hindi or have good ears, you won’t mind so much.

Nobody Home: On a more troubling note, we’re also hearing reports that tech support will occasionally not answer calls, or leave eMails unanswered for days or even weeks. In our eyes, this is completely unacceptable. When hosting and managing a website, you want your problems fixed as rapidly as possible. And when your lifeblood on the Web isn’t functioning because a rep won’t call you back, we simply cannot except the services offered. It’s a principles matter, if nothing else.

Trouble Transferring: According to our readers, it isn’t just the user that occasionally has problems moving a website from another host to JustHost. In multiple reports our readers have told us that JustHost tech reps simply can’t seem to get an hold on moving a website from one location to another. This is, of course, rather maddening, especially if you’re in need of a speedy move across town—so to speak.

JustHost Functionality Issues

justhost server complaint

Slow Performance: We can’t say we’re entirely surprised to see this complaint rising from the ranks, especially as this is shared hosting we’re talking about. Still, it appears that JustHost’s web performance and server speeds are somewhat lacking. Our users experienced quite a bit of lag with their websites, and in some cases, even found their spaces unusable due to a lack of processing power. This is most troubling, especially when unlimited disc space and bandwidth are both promised to the new signer.

JustHost Stability Concerns

justhost uptime complaint

Uptime Woes: this is yet another complaint we can’t say we’re too surprised to encounter. As reported by our users, the real uptime you’ll get with a JustHost is much closer to about 70% than it is the promised 99.99%. This isn’t a terrible amount of uptime, but when your website forms the very backbone of your life or business, you can’t deal with any downtime at all. When you need constant Internet presence, even the slightest of hiccups can be a nauseating and show-stopping even. Which is why the reports of websites going down for as much as 3 days at a time scare us!

All in all, consider deeply before signing with JustHost. In our eyes, the age-old adage, “You get what you pay for!” applies well here. Still, we’ll leave the ultimate decision up to you, the reader. And, as always, we encourage you to peruse the user-submitted reviews contained on the site for the latest and greatest complaints as given to us by our readers. We’re sitting on quite the egg of knowledge, and it’s all for you to gain from!

iPage: Common Customer Complaints

Posted by: admin | Comments Comments Off

Are you looking for good shared hosting? Have you been doing so for a while now? If so, then we’re willing to be you’ve heard of a few of these names: HostGator, JustHost, GreenGeeks, FatCow — and possibly, one of our favorite shared hosts iPage. iPage has been pumping out cheap and incredibly efficient web hosting for a long time now, and during that span of years, they’ve managed to wrack up quite a number of awards. However, just because a web hosting provider is award-studded does not mean it’s still worth the hype. With that in mind, below you’ll find the sum total compendium of some of the harshest and most common complaints we’ve received from our readers about iPage. We won’t sugar coat things, and if you’re here to cut through the straight bull, you’re in the right place. But before we dive into the bad and ugly of the matter, let’s first explore iPage itself a bit.

Who is iPage?

ipage logoIn case you haven’t heard of iPage.com before, let us be the first to give you the general rundown. The shared web hosting provider has been on the market for quite a while now, offering a unique focus on cheap web hosting with massive amounts of feature sets. Their plans start at only $3.95 a month ,and arrive with an anytime money-back guarantee. We aren’t sure exactly how faithful they are to the claim of “anytime,” but it’s still better than any 30-day or 90-day plan we’ve seen arriving out of other shared hosting providers.

Aside from that, the word we’d use to describe iPage is “solid.” They offer unlimited services like bandwidth, disc space, email accounts, and even a free domain to go along with your registration. They’ll also throw in about $450 worth of ad credits just for signing up, which strikes us as quite an impressive value. And on top of all these feature sets, the company also boasts US-based 24/7 technical assistance to help you with any and all problems your server may encounter.

ipage user ratings

All in all, they appear to be a rather choice pick for web hosting, but just because the paper stats look good doesn’t mean your user reviews always agree. To decide once and for all, we’ll have to dive into the reader reviews, starting with:

Sales Department Complaints

ipage complaint
Errant Charges: Sadly, this is something we see a lot of with cheap shared hosting. It appears that iPage too has fallen into the trap of accidentally charging its customers more than they bargained for, or in a lot of cases, multiple times for the same services. Even worse, it appears that in some cases iPage was even unwilling to work things out or refund the charges with its customers. If true, and we have no reason to believe it isn’t, that’s quite a blow to a seemingly alright package!

Rampant Charging for Software: In another saddening turn of events, it also appears that iPage is charging customers inordinate amounts of money for services that simply do not cost a lot. For example, we’re hearing reports that Weebly’s Premium Services are being sold at $10 a month instead of the standard $4.

Technical Support Claims and Complaints

ipage complaint
American Support? We are all for a global village (in fact, we’re likely one of its biggest supporters) but we do take issue with iPage’s claim to being an American technical support company. Apparently, and we’ve verified this via live chat, the company’s call centers and help locations are actually located in Bangalore, India. Ordinarily, we wouldn’t have a problem with this, but the fact that they’ve advertised themselves as something else is troubling, if not completely misleading.

Spelling: A slightly more humorous complaint rising out of the masses, it appears the live chat tech support representatives have had quite a lot of trouble spelling words. Annoying as this may be, we don’t yet think it’s a deal breaker for the whole package, though.

General Lack in Knowledge: However, we are also seeing reports that the tech support reps for iPage have on more than one occasion failed to produce a resolution to a server problem or error that requires fixing. This, of course, is much more disturbing, as not having a functioning website is simply not acceptable.

Functionality Complaints

You Get What You Pay For: In an almost all-around sense, we’re getting reports that, where speed is concerned, users are feeling as if they’ve bought a lackluster product. For starters, it appears the company’s emailing client is incredibly slow, even with top-notch computer hardware on the user’s end. Likewise, we’re also getting reports that the server itself is usually quite slow, and typically doesn’t provide the sort of performance we look for in a quality web host.

Up-times? Lastly, it appears that the server’s general up-time is mostly lacking, as well. This is even more disturbing, as a site that doesn’t appear when called for is hardly a site at all. Perhaps iPage isn’t such a great bargain after all?

Stability Complaints

ipage complaint

General Software Malaise: It appears that iPage has been somewhat lax in its creation of web software, as we’re getting reports from several users that such items as Drupal and Joomla are simply not performing well. This is one of those broad complaints that is likely true, but still could stem from any number of issues.

So there you have it! After all the data has been pulled together, it really looks as though iPage may not be the bargain offering we’d hoped for. Still, as with any web host, you can decide for yourself. However, we would suggest you use our vast amount of user reviews to weight your decision carefully. Others have been there before—and occasionally suffered as well—allowing you to benefit from their misfortunes. We’d suggest you best make use of it!

BlueHost: Common Customer Complaints

Posted by: admin | Comments Comments Off

When it comes to shared web hosting, very few companies have quite the reputation (especially within the business world) that BlueHost.com enjoys. The company has been around literally as long as we can remember, and during that time period, they’ve offered cheap, high-quality web hosting to just about everyone under the sun. They also appear to have quite the focus on business and market-ready applications and hardware, making them the picture perfect host for the businessman in need of some serious bang for their buck.

However, does BlueHost really hold up under our user-submitted review microscope? We’ve seen lots of other shared hosting providers falter a bit, or even outright stumble, in our previous articles, and we’re quite excited now to crack open the host and take a second look.

bluehost ratings

So all in all, if you’ve not yet decided on your next shared hosting provider, and want a third (or fourth, fifth, sixth, etc.) opinion on BlueHost, jump on down below the break to feel the reward of sweet satisfaction. We’ll be covering all the complaints you lot have submitted, but first, let’s take a deeper dive into the services BlueHost offers!

Who is BlueHost?

bluehost logoOut of the box, we’d have to categorize BlueHost as “classy” if nothing else. The company’s site promises all the same sort of features and services we’ve come to expect from high-quality shared hosting providers, though with a markedly different feel than most. As stated before, BlueHost is trying quite hard to swing itself towards the business market, and it shows. Here you’ll find an emphasis on the high-quality hardware, as well as how it can help to drive your market value and web presence. Still, you’ll find all the unlimited disc space, bandwidth, email accounts, and domains you’d expect from a host of this caliber. They also offer quite a few VPS options, which is a nice touch for the businessman looking to expand.

That being said, one can promise just about anything on the Internet. So how does the company look when we dive into the user complaints and comments? To find out, head on down to the next subsection.

Sales Complaints

bluehost complaint

Impolite: This is actually a new one for us. We’ve seen lots of complaints about other shared hosting providers in which you, the users, have complained about the reps’ ineptitude: But never before have we heard of an host being outright rude. It would appear that BlueHost reps sometimes have a problem with respecting the consumer, even encouraging them to take business elsewhere for trying to resolve a problem. To us, this is simply unacceptable, and we’re sorry to hear word of it emerging from the company.

Automatic Renew: In another slightly off-color complaint, it appears that BlueHost suffers from what we like to call the sticky auto-renew button. It appears our users have had a bear of a time turning off the auto-renewal of their accounts, leading to many unwanted charges. This would not be such a problem, but it appears BlueHost is somewhat reticent to rescind these charges.

Customer Support Complaints

bluehost complaint

Begging for Answers: Sadly, this is a complaint we see rather frequently in the world of shared web hosting. It appears that BlueHost is somewhat slow to respond to users with severe problems, requiring the user to continuously harass the host into giving them a straight answer or solution for their problems. We like to call this “begging for up-time.” But cute names aside, it’s still not a selling point, and we’re quite sad to hear reports of this emerging from BlueHost.

Lack of Information: In terms of dealbreakers, this isn’t an huge one, but it’s still quite troubling. It appears the second largest complaint amongst our users against BlueHost’s technical support is a general lack of information. It appears the reps will often leave the user out of the loop, even while fixing their problem behind the scenes. This is a troubling way of doing things, especially when a site is not functioning—or worse, has disappeared entirely without a word or trace of where it’s gone.

Functionality Complaints

bluehost complaint

Unlimited Just Isn’t: We feel like putting up a billboard somewhere about this. With almost every shared hosting provider we’ve exposed, it appears that unlimited service complaints usually just aren’t. In most cases, the user stretches too far over the capabilities of the server, and is then slapped with an “unreasonable use” warning. This warning usually comes with an added fee, meaning all that free and unlimited space simply doesn’t exist. Sadly, BlueHost appears to fall trap to this failing as well, and though we understand the limits of physical hardware, we do want what we’re advertised.

Sudden Deactivations: In what we like to call the big-brother effect, it appears that BlueHost will, at random, deactivate your account claiming a violation of terms and conditions. The root cause? Based on what our users say, it’s very likely high traffic volume. We can’t say for sure, but there’s certainly something fishy going on here.

Stability Problems

bluehost complaint

Freezes: Oddly enough, we haven’t seen many complaints about a lack of up-time. Rather, we have seen complaints that the site will often freeze up, often for whole minutes at a time. Still, this is a leg and an half up from most other shared hosting providers, and we can’t say it’s entirely a deal breaker.

So there you have it! All in all, it appears that BlueHost is, after all, quite a functional web hosting provider. Most of the complaints we’ve seen have been small, and though there were a few larger—and quite disturbing—issues, BlueHost may yet be as advertised for the most part. Still, we strongly encourage you to always check our written user reviews before making a purchase, that way you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into: And even if you don’t, you’ll have a much better idea.

HostGator: Common Customer Complaints

Posted by: admin | Comments Comments Off

In our eyes, it’s our job to inform you about some of the largest names in the web hosting industry. In other words, we look at the corporate giants that are constantly vying to steal your money and attention, and our only thought is, “What’s wrong with this provider?” There are a lot of quality options out there, but on the other hand, you’ll find just as many rotten experiences. In today’s article, we’ll be analyzing the not-so-good of just one such hosting provider. HostGator.com has been in the industry for a long time, and has earned more awards than we can shake a stick at. However, if you think they’re all gold and sunshine, you may want to jump on down below the break to view some of the user complaints we’ve received against the company. We’ve compiled a few of the more common ailments just below the break, but before we dive into the what of what’s wrong with HostGator, let’s talk a bit about the who.

Who is HostGator?

hostgator logoIf you’ve managed to search the web for quality hosting without encountering HostGator, we haven’t got a clue how you did it. HostGator has been in the business as long as we can remember, and during that time, they’ve been racking up the awards left and right. Their main focus is on cheap shared hosting, but they also offer quite a few additional services, like virtual private servers. Their plans are rock-bottom, but they’re also guaranteed with an entire list of “unlimited” benefits. All in all, they look like every other big name hosting provider on the market.

hostgator ratings

But are they really all they crack themselves up to be? For that, we’ll have to dive into the treasure trove of user reviews we’ve stockpiled over the years. So without keeping you waiting any longer, dive on down below the break to see what our reviewers are complaining about the most with HostGator!

Sales Issues

hostgator complaint

Not-So Obvious Pricing: First and foremost, HostGator advertises a single low price for their basic shared hosting account. However, as many of our reviewers have pointed out, you shouldn’t let that number fool you! You’ll have to sign up for an entire year to get that price, and if you decide to do anything shorter, you’ll be paying a higher premium. Granted, this is hardly a deal breaker, but we felt you should know, especially as so many of our users have been talking about it.

Throttled Service: On a more disturbing note, we’ve also been hearing reports that HostGator throttles the performance of accounts as soon as their 30-day money back guarantee has expired. Apparently, once the safety nets are off the company will drastically reduce the overall performance of the site, so much so that it’s noticeable on the front-end. We can’t guarantee these reports are true, but we’ve certainly heard it from enough of our user base to think it’s at least plausible, if not probable.

Customer Support Complaints

hostgator complaint

No Notifications: To dive into another area of the common complaints we’ve been getting, it appears that HostGator’s technical support can be somewhat lackluster. Most noticeably, our users have been reporting a lack of reports. In other words, their accounts have been removed, modified, or even been down without any sort of notification of a change in service. It appears this is a tactic to avoid being blamed for server problems. At least, that’s what our users have been saying. The common trend is apparently the need to pester and badger the technical support representative until, finally, they admit to a server-side problem. Obviously this is a terrible way to run a business, and it appears the reseller hosts are suffering the most.

Lack of Knowledge: On another note, it also appears that HostGator’s support representatives have been unable in a lot of cases to solve the problems our users have been facing. Frequently, our reviewers have called up a tech support agent, only to have their situation either exacerbated, or worsened.

Slow Service: Lastly, we’re hearing reports that the tech support service with HostGator is somewhat slow on the upkeep. It often took our users days to hear back from an eMail ticket, and even the live chat appears to be somewhat sluggish.

Server Functionality Issues

hostgator complaint

cPanel Problems: To be honest, this is a complaint we don’t see everyday, but enough of our users have reported it to make it relevant. Apparently, the cPanel offers little to no support for languages other than English, producing overlapped fields and other such inconsistencies in service. If your primary language is English, this likely won’t be a problem. For others, we thought you should at least be aware.

Broken Links: A slightly more bizarre, though no less common, complaint, we’ve been hearing that HostGator frequently breaks all the links embedded within a website, and with no obvious cause. One morning, many of our users awoke to find their links simply broken. As mentioned earlier, tech support didn’t appear to be of much help, and in all but a few cases, our users moved on to a different hosting company.

Database Errors: We see this with a lot of shared hosting companies, but our users have reported more database errors than most with HostGator. It appears housing a database with HostGator is somewhat risky, often leading to overloaded requests or sites that simply don’t function correctly because of it.

So there you have it! Those are some of the more common complaints we’ve heard about HostGator, and though it may seem all negative, we feel we should mention that we’ve also heard good things about them. This is why you should always check WebHostingGeeks.com for the full review of each and every web host you’re considering! We’ll always cover the pros and cons of the most popular options, and no matter who you’re looking at, we guarantee we can keep you informed.

GreenGeeks: Common Customer Complaints

Posted by: admin | Comments Comments Off

Here at Web Hosting Geeks, we more or less feel it is our duty to keep in informed about the latest complaints and niggles concerning the largest web hosting providers around. In other words, we like to think of ourselves as the Batman to your Gotham. We might be wrong in thinking so Dark Knight, but either way, we’re still sitting on a mountain of user-submitted reviews. In the coming weeks, you’ll be seeing us deliver these reviews to your door, highlighting some of the more common complaints with some of the most well-known faces in the industry. If you’ve been looking for a quality web host, there’s no better place to start than with the volley of stones we’ll be throwing out this month. As such, today we’ll be grilling GreenGeeks, one of the more eco-minded hosting companies around.

Who are GreenGeeks?

greengeeks logoIf you haven’t yet heard of the company, GreenGeeks is one of the preeminent pioneers of green-based server hosting technology. In other words, they helped to found and advance the idea of using wind-powered turbines to generate the massive amounts of electricity needed to host so many websites. It’s great stuff, and at our last check-in, GreenGeeks is now capable of producing three times the amount of energy it uses. This means that, for every one electron the company uses, they sell two back to the grid. It’s a monumental achievement, especially considering server banks are one of the world’s largest pollution-producing machines.

But all of this green-minded progress doesn’t necessarily mean GreenGeeks is offering a better hosting experience. We’ve tallied up the votes (as well as the reviews) and the verdict is in. If you’ve been wondering exactly what’s wrong with the GreenGeeks experience, you’ve come to the right place. Below you’ll find some of the more common ailments our users have noticed with the company, as well as a few pointers on whether or not these issues are deal breakers. Starting with:

Sales Support

Errant Charges: Overall, we haven’t had too many complaints about the company from this end of the world. However, we have had a few users point out that they’re receiving charges from GreenGeeks even after they’ve cancelled their account with the company. Obviously, this sort of behavior is highly suspicious, and can lead to quite a lot of headaches further down the road.

No Backups: We’ve also been hearing reports that GreenGeeks doesn’t offer quite the backup service it claims to. Whether or not you’re signed onto a backup program, it appears that very few users have been able to coax the company into giving them back their websites after a disaster. There’s nothing worse than losing your data to a malicious attack, so be mindful of these complaints!

Technical Support

No Reply at All: Whether or not you appreciated our little Phil Collins joke there, it appears that quite a few of our readers have experienced technical support scenarios in which the responding agent gave no reason at all for account activities. For instance, one of our users reported a denied application, and when she polled GreenGeeks for a reason, they essentially told her to not contact them again. Across the board, we’ve been seeing lapses in response times, leading us to think your site may not be in safe hands, should you experience any problems while under GreenGeeks’ wing.

Security Problems: We’re also hearing reports that security is somewhat lax around the GreenGeeks offices. We’ve had numerous reports of malicious software being installed, and not recognized or reported for months. Obviously, it isn’t your responsibility to protect their server, making this a grievous break in typical protocol.

Lier Lier, Pants on Fire: Believe it or not, we’re also hearing reports that GreenGeeks has outright been lying to users about the support for various features and utilities. If this is true (and we have no reason not to believe it is) then GreenGeeks’ technical support isn’t just useless, it’s deceitful. Take this with a grain of salt, but it appears the company has absolutely failed where it comes to helping and supporting our readers.

Server Functions

Frequent Downtimes: On a similarly disappointing note, we’re also hearing from quite a few of our users that GreenGeeks sites are frequently out of commission. Obviously, the occasional bout of downtime is all but unavoidable, but in these cases, we’re hearing horror stories of hours at length, or even days without a functioning website. If you’re running an eCommerce build especially, it appears your Web presence may not be safe at all with the GreenGeeks servers.

Random Blackouts: Even worse, we’ve heard from at least a dozen different users that GreenGeeks will randomly, without warning, shut down your website. The reasons given are typically based around resource use, but no matter how you slice it, that sort of behavior is just not acceptable. All in all, we’re getting a creeping feeling in our bones when it comes to GreenGeeks server functionality, especially with even more of our users complaining of sluggish performance with larger websites.

Domain Transfer Issues: This is actually a new one for us. It appears that GreenGeeks has frequently messed up the transfer of our users’ domains, leading to mountains of frustration that eventually lead to days without a comprehensive website. What’s worse is that our users were apparently treated quite harshly during their repartee with the company. All in all, things aren’t looking great for GreenGeeks.

So there you have it! Overall, we’ve received quite a lot of detailed complaints from our users about GreenGeeks, and though we haven’t seen quite the volume we usually do with other providers, the stories we’re receiving lead us to think GreenGeeks is perhaps more rough than diamond. That being said, you should still always check our user reviews before signing with another web host! You never know what’s beyond the marketing pitch if you don’t check.

FatCow: Common Customer Complaints

Posted by: admin | Comments Comments Off

When it comes to cheap web hosting, we tend to see a lot of the same names floating around. Typically, these are the larger companies that have been in the game since nearly the beginning, and have plowed through the awards regularly enough to garner a boatload of attention. However, that doesn’t mean these services are all bad: In fact, many of them are quite good. Then again, quite a lot of them are rotten to the core. It’s a maddening world to be sure, and if you’re feeling lost, we’re here to help.

FatCow is one of the largest names in the industry, and as such, we imagine you’ve at least considered it in passing a few times during your search for the perfect web host. If that’s true, and you’re still considering them, we feel it’s our duty to inform you of some of the common complaints and problems our reviewers have been chatting about. We’ll detail all the dirt that’s been flung, as well as the pros of the service, too. All in all, you can expect a full complaint roundup below, custom-tailored for FatCow and all of its services. So without further ado, jump on down below the break to view our whole thought on who FatCow is, as well as a few of its major issues.

Who is FatCow?

fatcowFirst and foremost, you may be wondering who FatCow actually is, especially if you’ve never heard of them. FatCow is a well-known and much-respected web hosting provider who has been providing hosting services since the late 90s. As such, they’ve got quite the reputation, a reputation that’s largely built around the provider’s simplicity. They offer two, very basic plans, which can then be fleshed out through the purchase of additional service features. It’s a solid way to do web hosting, and the simplicity draws a lot of attention: Especially from those who haven’t got the time or knowhow to host their site in a more manual, way.

That’s the rough skinny of the who about FatCow, but what about the what? That might have been confusing, so we’ll rephrase: It’s all well and good to say the provider is respected and learned, but what have our reviewers been saying about the company? To find out, you’ll have to keep reading just beyond the break!

Sales Department Woes

Strange Charges: We’ve been combing through the reviews, and one of the trends we’ve been noticing has us worried. It seems quite a lot of our users are experiencing strange or uncalled for charges on their accounts when first signing with FatCow. These charges range from a few extra dollars, all the way up to several hundred. It’s a troubling statistic, which means you might should look out when hosting with the company.

Slow Support: We’ve also been seeing our readers complain about slow or unresponsive help from technical support. Most of this stems from the errant charges, which apparently aren’t being dealt with in any comprehensive or speedy manner. Likewise, we’re also seeing complaints that refunds are taking much longer than expected, meaning FatCow is ready to take your money, but much slower when it comes to giving it back.

Price Changes: Finally, our readers are complaining that FatCow hikes up the prices after the first year’s price. This is common in cheap web hosts, and should always be researched before signing.

Technical Support Complaints

Functionality: We already mentioned the complaints covering the speed of FatCow’s support, but it also appears the support is somewhat lacking when it comes to technical knowhow. We’ve had copious reports of representatives not knowing how to add or improve functionality, which can be quite troubling.

Lack of Solutions: We’re also hearing that FatCow is a little low when it comes to quality solutions. It seems many of our readers have run into problems they simply cannot fix, which FatCow doesn’t readily supply an answer for. Many of our readers left the company at this point, and we can’t say we blame them.

Web Capability Complaints

High Load Problems: According to our readers, FatCow’s servers don’t appear to function very well under stress. In fact, we’re being told that if you even incur moderate traffic flow, you may find yourself without a competent website.

Site Size: Likewise, we’re also hearing from an entire load of users that your site must be quite small to be functional. If you’ve loaded it up with all the trappings we encourage, you may find your avenue performing poorly, or even not at all.

Email-Less Email: Lastly, we’re also hearing that more often than not, the Cow’s email servers are incapable of delivering email consistently. We’ve heard figures as low as 20% when it comes to message success rates. If you’re running a business through your page, obviously this is a tremendous downside.

Stability Complaints:

Up-Time is No-Time: FatCow is one of many web hosting providers to promise a full 99.9% up-time. However, we’re hearing from our readers that the truth is much further away, with sites disappearing for as much as several hours at a time. We’re even hearing that the FatCow site itself often disappears from the Web, leading us to believe the stability of the hosting experience here is somewhat compromised, if not completely so.

Limited Performance: Likewise, we’re also hearing reports of the company limiting the user’s ability to send emails, soak up bandwidth, or use disc space. Considering there’s an unlimited agreement stated in the signing lease, this makes no sense, and should be avoided.

So there you have it! We’ve been seeing a load of complaints with FatCow, and though only those who are truly impassioned to speak out against the company do so, we have a feeling it’s not quite the best service available. Still, you should always check WebHostingGeeks.com to ensure the host you’re pursuing is worth hunting. Our reviewers are real people, and we guarantee you’ll find the answers you need!
